Hopefully you'll now be able to find that article nagging at your backbrain a little easier now (I know that I will). Enjoy!
Allan.
P.S. - Oh, and if you're curious, the Fight On! web site does feature a high-level index for each issue in the left-nav of the home page.
Thanks, Allan (AKA the Hardest Working Man in RPGs! Useful, as always.
ReplyDeleteNicely done!
ReplyDeletebookmarked - thanks for this
ReplyDeleteAllan, I'm curious if you ever posted part 2 of the Shadow Master article from Knockspell #6. I just lucked into finding issue #6 at a used book place tonight and read the shadow master article. Very nicely done. I rarely enjoy alternate classes that venture *outside* the norms, but this was really good. I found myself thinking about the Dishonored video game franchise -- characters dissolving into wisps of shadow and reforming for nefarious purposes feels very modern to me. But only through level 4 spells!, doh. I figured you might have posted the rest on your blog.
ReplyDelete@Greg: Not thus far, no. Tony and I have talked about doing it The Twisting Stair, but I don't want to carry over "part 2" baggage from elsewhere for folks who don't have a copy of part 1, so it will appear here at some point.
ReplyDeleteThe content is ready-to-go, but the formatting of XP/spells per day tables on the blog is far from ideal, which is what's held me up thus far. I'm more likely to compile a PDF at this point, although I'll likely do a little mix-and-match, too, I suppose. We'll see.
I'm not familiar with the Dishonored video games, but like the sound of what you describe. Thanks for your interest!
Allan.
I too would like to see the complete Shadow Master class published. It was one of the most interesting character classes published in Knockspell Magazine. Heck, put it up on DriveThruRpg and I expect it would sell. I liked it better than the Shadow Mage from the Players Option: Spells and Magic in 2nd Ed. It looked like it would also play better than the kits in Dragon #261, the "Wizards of Dusk and Gloom" from July of 1999. I know you are busy Mr. Grohe, but the Shadow Master is too good a class to just leave unfinished.
ReplyDeleteIt will get done at some point soon-ish, staton67 and Unknown, thank you for your continued interest!
DeleteAllan.
Allan,
ReplyDeleteI also have the class out of White Wolf magazines, #8 and #14, the latter written by you. But the class in Knockspell #6 was more fleshed out. On another note, I ran your Necromancer class in a 1st Ed. Barrowmaze campaign last year. It was a real hoot, and ideal for that milieu. You do quality work, sir. Looking forward to seeing the complete Shadow Master.
re: KS article more fleshed-out: when the class was originally published in WW#11, Stuart Wieck wasn't interested in my modifications to existing spells, only in the brand-new ones, so the alternate versions of Unseen Servant, Creeping Darkness, Evard's Black Tentacles, Guards and Wards, etc. so they never saw light of day until the KS version was published.
DeleteAnd thank you for the compliments. I've begun working on compiling my various house rules, alternate rules, new classes, magic items, etc. with the goal of getting them all together for publishing, but it will certainly take some time.
